Week 11: Goodbye 2020

2020.

12 months.

52 weeks.

365 days.

8,760 hours.

525,600 minutes.

31,536,000 seconds.

When we break the year down into hours, minutes, seconds—I can’t say this year has been particularly horrible across the board, because not all 31+ million seconds were bad. In 2020, we’ve had some wonderful minutes and amazing days. We found out we were moving to Austria, celebrated engagements, and our third wedding anniversary. We voted, I read a book (which I never do), sold our house, moved across the world during a pandemic, started learning a new language—all while remaining healthy.

Then, just hours before 2020 came to an end, Eric broke his finger skiing. Thankfully, it was just his finger and not a leg or arm.

The health care system here is awesome. We didn’t have to pay anything, Eric was seen right away, and it only took us 30 minutes total. We got back home from the hospital and as the clock struck midnight, we watched fireworks go off from every direction around the Traunsee.

Instead of making resolutions geared towards breaking a habit, we try to think about—

“What do you want to accomplish by the time the clock strikes midnight on January 1, 2022?”

Our goals for 2021:

  • Travel to 5 new countries

  • Climb the Traunstein

  • Launch ThePackShop portion of this website
