Week 2: Halloween Hike

This week, Eric and I went back to work and are still adjusting to life in Austria. Life here is so much slower in every way. From how people sit in a café and aren’t expected to get up when they’re finished, to everything being shut down on Sundays so people can enjoy time with their families.

One of our favorite things about Austria is how dog-friendly it is. If you follow @ImCharlieHollis, you know the dogs go everywhere we go.

For our most recent adventure, we boarded the Grünberg cable car which took us from the valley up to the Grünberg mountain station in less than 5 minutes. For a round-trip ticket, humans cost 18 euro and dogs cost 5 euros—we’ll be getting the season pass next year.

When we got to the top, we started hiking towards the Laudachsee, a mountain lake. It is the most popular destination for hikers on the Grunberg mountain as it is a nature reserve and swimming paradise in the summer. The hike was an hour long and for the most part, very flat.

Mom, if you’re reading this, we’ll be hiking this trail when you visit!

Upon arrival at the Laudachsee, we were pleasantly surprised to find a quaint cottage restaurant sitting at the bottom of the mountain with fall colors as its backdrop. It was like we hiked right into a page of a fairytale book. We sat down for lunch and Eric ordered entirely in German. The food was delicious, the views were amazing and the weather was perfect. To say we love our new town and all it has to offer would be an understatement.

‘Til next week…
