Week 25: Schiederweiher

Earlier this week we woke up to a snow covered yard again! I really thought we were done with the snow for this season, but I guess Mother Nature had other plans. By Thursday it was all melted and we were able to put the table out in the courtyard. We are spending a lot of hours out here as this is seeming like the best time of year in Austria. Every season has been great though.

We are quickly becoming experts on Upper Austria hiking trails and, with spring time upon us, more hiking trails are opening up again. The hike we did this weekend was called Schiederweiher. Recently awarded most beautiful place in Austria in 2018 and it certainly deserved that recognition. This hike is family friendly and the walk time is only 20 minutes from the parking lot to the lake. The Schiederweiher is an artificial lake located in the Pyhrn-Priel region, more precisely in Hinterstoder

The lake is full of trout, ducks, and crawfish.  The water was so clear and turquoise you could see the bottom of the lake. The clarity of the lake was also perfect for capturing the reflections of the Spitzmauer and the Großer Priel mountains.

In addition to our daily work schedule and a weekend hike, this week was spent redesigning The Pack Mama website. We wanted to update it to reflect our current lives in Austria and added a few new features!

Specifically, a new section under the blog category.  We still have our weekly recaps, but I also wanted to start writing a few articles that give helpful travel tips to those wishing to move abroad. The first article covers how to move abroad with pets.

We have received a lot of questions regarding moving with our dogs. How did the dogs not pee on the plane? How did the dogs get their own seats in business class? We cover it all in our first “Travel Tips” blog post.

Next week we will be celebrating 6 months in Austria. It is hard to believe we have been here for that long! We plan to launch a few items in our shop section of the website–so stay tuned!
