Week 55: DNA results & The Gmunden Collection
Unfortunately, this week we do not have a video to share. With Eric away in America this past week, the dogs and I stayed close to home and filming alone with animals proved problematic.
But we still have fun news to share this week–
Firstly, we found out what breeds Daisy and Charlie are.
I have wanted to know their DNA results for a long time. Eric got me doggie DNA tests for my birthday and we finally got around to performing the tests. After about a 5 weeks, we received the results this week.
As we already suspected, both are very mixed breed dogs so we knew it might be hard for the test to say exactly which breeds forsure.
Charlie Results:
Australian Cattle Dog: 25%
Basset Hound: 12.5%
Mixed Breed: 62.5%
One of his parents is a mix of Australian Cattle Dog, Basset Hound and another breed.
His other parent was so mixed, the results could not really say for sure, but did list the top 5 most-likely breeds based on an analysis of over over 17 million calculations.
Schipperke
Great Pyrenees (Patou)
Chihuahua
Vizsla
Long-haired dachshund
I highly doubt the Chihuahua option, but the Schipperke and Great Pyrenees make sense for his extra fluffy neck!
Daisy Results:
Australian Cattle Dog: 50%
Border Collie: 12.5%
Mixed Breed: 25%
Boxer: 12.5%
One of her parents came from a line of Australian Cattle Dogs. Her other parent shows a mix of Border Collie, Boxer, and another breed.
Like Charlie, the test gave a list of the top 5 most-likely breeds for what the “mix” could have been:
Treeing Walker Coonhound
Silky Terrier
Shikoku
Cane Corso Italiano
Jack Russell Terrier
It now makes sense why she herds us around when we are about to feed her and when we are getting ready to go outside.
For our second bit of fun news… we are launching our first apparel collection just in time for the holidays!
The Gmunden Collection
After our first set of friends and family came and went, we realized Gmunden does not have many touristy shops with apparel if you are looking to take home a t-shirt or two as a souvenir.
So, since Gmunden apparel did not exist, we are making it exist.
We love this town and we think everyone should have a little piece of Gmunden to wear.
In partnering with Printful, I created a few designs featuring the Traunstein, Schloss Ort and Swans. Then uploaded them to the Printful site and applied them to several pieces of clothing. The Traunstein logo is my favorite. It felt like something Eric and I would find in a Columbia or Northface store. Minimal is the name of the game.
I ended up ordering the beanie and hoodie to see how the design looked once applied to the fabric. The illustrations are embroidered on, with the exception of the two tanks with just “Gmunden” written out.
As Eric and I walked around today we noticed a few people glancing over at my outfit checking out my designs.
Who knows, maybe I will try to sell it to the city of Gmunden someday and my designs will be in a store here, but for now, they will be sold from my online shop here.
