Week 58: Winter hike to Laudachsee

We hiked to Laudachsee

Nestled between the Traunstein and Katzenstein lies the Laudachsee. We have hiked here twice before in the summer and fall. This weekend we took a new trail and got to see it in winter.

Snowy moss.

Very tall, skinny trees.

Because of the surrounding mountains that overshadow Laudachsee, the lake turns into an ice rink in winter. The lake was not solid yet; maybe in January.

After an hour and a half hike to the lake, we made our way up to Ramsaualm, a mountain hut just up a hill usually open to serve food and drinks. The hut is closed at the moment because of the lockdown, but we still sat at a table and enjoyed snacks we brought from home. I am attaching a photo of the hut from the fall season I took in our week 2.

We decorated for Christmas

This year will be our second Christmas in Austria. It is sad to think next year will be our last Christmas here. Our time is going by so quickly and we are enjoying every minute of it!

Our decorated mantel.

New ornament from Eric’s mom!

Just one more week of lockdown and then fingers crossed we will be able to attend a lot more Christmas markets!!
