Week 64-65: We got Covid

For the past two weeks, Eric and I have been recovering from Covid.

In March of 2020, on Friday the 13th, Covid entered our lives. It was the last day I would see my coworkers in person. It was the last day I would commute into the city and walk into the John Hancock Tower. Since then we have been dodging Covid, taking every precaution, and missing several big life events in fear of getting this crazy virus.

After 1 year, 9 months, and 28 days of successfully avoiding Covid–we got it. Not sure exactly where or when, but it was when I was back in America. I guess it is inevitable you will end up catching it at some point, but kudos to you if you are still one that has not.

I had tested negative within the 72 hours before my flight, but once I landed I tested again and was positive. So I went straight to our guest room to isolate myself from Eric, hoping he would not catch it from me. Even though our animals probably would not get sick by seeing me, they could pass it on to Eric. So I was in our guest room for six days. I only got to see my animals from the window when they went out for a potty break which was heartbreaking not to be able to hug them the moment I got back home. They could not see me, but I think they knew I was there.

The dogs listening to me from the other room.

This was the longest I had ever been apart from Daisy. We got her in December 2019. Just a few months after we got her we started WFH, then moved to Austria and I continued to work from home. Our longest vacation over here was for 4 days. So not seeing her for two weeks was weird.

I passed the time by planning our 2022 vacations which include Paris, Ireland, Amsterdam, Prague, Poland, Croatia, Italy, and many many other places. I did some design work and binge-watched Cheer 2 and Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I also read a book, which is rare for me, and I finished the book in a day, which is even rarer. The book was called ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel. I only got distracted once when the light hit my nails and the page of the book just right, haha.

The light hitting just right.

Eric ended up testing positive about a week after I got back home. Even having zero contact with me, he still caught it. #omicron. Once he tested positive, we decided there was no point in me staying in the guest room, so I finally got to come out and be reunited with the family.

2022 has started out a bit rocky, but our quarantine ends after this weekend, so, hopefully, we can resume our regularly planned adventures in Week 66.
