Week 76: Austrian Easter Markets & Travel prep

This was just an ordinary week.

One where we finalized our trip plans to Amsterdam and Berlin.
One where the weather could not make up its mind, so we stayed home instead of climbing or discovering a new hike.
One where we were not able to film enough for a weekly video…oops!

It was also one where Austria’s Easter markets opened up!

Think big Christmas markets, but instead of Christmas ornaments, there are stalls selling Easter decorations, decorated eggs, and culinary treats. Since Austria is a religious country, they go all out for Christmas and Easter. While Vienna is known for having the most extravagant Easter markets, every state in Austria has some kind of Easter celebration happening.

We walked into town to check out the Gmunden Easter Market, also known as “Ostermarkt”. There was a petting zoo booth with a real bunny you could pet, hold and take pictures with, but other than that, it was extremely small. Only 8-10 other booths selling eggs, wooden crafts, flowers, and food. A bit of a let down after seeing pictures of the bigger markets, but we purchased chocolate covered strawberries and those certainly did not dissapoint.

The Easter decoration in Gmunden was lacking…

We will be travelling to Vienna on Tuesday before our flight to Amsterdam and are excited to check out the bigger, fancier Viennese markets!

As previously mentioned, the weather could not make up its mind. However, we did have a few nice sunsets after the rain passed throughout the week.

While you are reading this blog post, I am most likely finishing up reading the Diary of Anne Frank.

In Amsterdam, one of our stops will be the Anne Frank House. It is a strange feeling reading this diary knowing in just a few days I will be standing in the secret annex where this diary was written.

For our most loyal followers, here is your notice the next blog post will come April 24. 😊

Until then, follow me on Instagram for stories around Amsterdam and Berlin!
