Week 45: Miesweg

This week the summer temperatures started turning into fall. It is our favorite time of year! With the change of the weather, I began feeling a bit under the weather. This weekend we took it easy and returned to the Miesweg.

The Miesweg is a beautiful hike on the Traunsee in Gmunden. If you whip out a pair of binoculars you can see the trail from our living room window.

The starting point is at Parkplatz Traunstein. The parking lot is free, but unfortunately only about 20-30 parking spaces are available. This fills up very quickly, so I would recommend arriving early in the morning or late afternoon.

The trail is built directly at the foot of the Traunstein with newly renovated wooden walkways, ladders and steal cables. Pets are allowed, but because of the ladders it is a bit challenging, so our pups sat this one out.

After about 35 minutes, we reached the small rocky bay. Since it had been raining, we arrived to a pretty cool waterfall.

After some time admiring the waterfall, we followed a fairly steep nature trail back to the forest road. From here, it goes through two dark and cold tunnels up and eventually back to the parking lot.

Pack mama tip: Use your phone flashlight when walking through the tunnel. It is dark and the path is uneven.
