Week 71: 500 days in Austria

We boarded the airplane with one-way boarding tickets in one hand, dog leashes in the other, and moved to Austria… 500 days ago (as of Friday).

After 500 days of exploring all over Austria, our adventures led us to The Sound of Music Trail this weekend.

Just beyond the city of Salzburg is a small village called Werfen. This village is known for the grand Hohenwerfen castle and the field where Maria von Trapp taught the children the famous “Do Re Mi” song in The Sound of Music.

From the parking lot in the village, we were led up an inclined trail for about 30 minutes. It would have been much simpler had the trail not been covered in snow and ice.

Half way point lookout.

But we made it!

Can you spot the newest addition to the sound of music cast?

The castle

This Alpine pasture might be the most famous of all The Sound of Music locations, with the 900-year-old Hohenwerfen castle in the background. There are many tours in the summer taking people to this spot. It was special to have it all to ourselves.

Such a pretty day

We will definitely add this spot to the itineraries of our future visitors :)

Seems like people love the holidays and Hallstatt 😉

My favorite part of keeping track of our adventures is seeing where people are reading and watching from. While the majority of our viewers are in America, people from all over the world have come to our website seeking information on how to travel abroad or where to go for pet-friendly adventures.

Our top viewers are located in: The United States, Austria, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Australia.

But people from…Ireland, France, Philippines, India, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Israel, Turkey, Argentina, Greece, Indonesia, Mauritius, U.S. Virgin Islands, China, Czechia, Republic of Lithuania, Netherlands, Serbia, Sweden, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Croatia, Jersey, Republic of Korea, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Vanuatu…are tuning in too!

We never expected to reach so many people around the globe. Hopefully we can continue to do so.

Our favorite thing about Austria: The scenery and food. Whether we are going for a hike in the summer or skiing from chalet to chalet in the winter, stopping at the mountain huts to enjoy yummy Austrian food is our absolute favorite thing to do.

Next weekend we head off to Ireland to celebrate St. Patricks day with the Irish. We are meeting up with one of our best friends and will be there all week doing a road trip around the whole country. So, our next blog post will not come until the week of the 20th. Follow my Instagram if you need Pack Mama content before then 😉
