Week 87: Paddle boarding around the Traunsee
Two weeks ago, on our 600th day, a local Gmunden shop was hosting a “Test Tage” (test day) where you could test out stand-up paddleboards (SUP for short).
We had never tried them out before, but watched SUP’ers from afar float across the water and knew we wanted to try them someday.
Only a few minutes after testing them out we were hooked and ordered two boards of our own. The OHANA boards to be specific.
The possibilities are endless with a SUP. With more than 300 lakes throughout Austria, we can explore even more places on our paddle boards.
It took about 10 days to receive our boards, but now that they are here, we spent the entire weekend out on the water.
We took the dogs out on the SUPs with us today (Sunday). The boards have a thick foam pad capable of handling sharp dog nails.
The dogs were a little wiggly, so we decided to just sit and paddle. Maybe after a few more outings we will be comfortable enough to stand with them aboard.
Daisy did so well and we were so proud of her!
Charlie was a little hesitant. He cried when Daisy and I would paddle too far and he would constantly stand up or plop down for a drink of water causing the board to rock. I guess this is a lesson not to push our fur babies to do something they are not interested in 😂.
Or maybe we will push a few more times. We enjoy doing things together with the dogs and would love for all of us to do this more often.
Paddle boarding is fun and also a great low-impact, all-body workout. Almost every muscle in your body is used when paddle boarding. Your core, back, and leg muscles are constantly maintaining balance, while your arms, back, and shoulders are propelling your board through the water.
Charlie and Daisy have never been big water fans, so we ordered life jackets for them in case they fell off. At the end of our adventure, they jumped off the boards and into the water and I think they really appreciated their life jackets.
